Court Challenges Ahmad Lawan, Ireti Kingibe's Candidacies

A legal challenge has been filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja against the senatorial candidacies of Ahmad Lawan and Ireti Kingibe ahead of the 2027 general elections. The suit, brought by Hassan Kafayo, seeks to nullify the primary elections that produced Lawan as the candidate for the Progressive Congress in the Yobe North Senatorial District.

The plaintiff's counsel, Franci Mgboh, informed the court that attempts to serve Lawan with court documents were unsuccessful, leading to a request for permission to serve via alternative means. Justice Salim Ibrahim granted this request and scheduled a hearing for July 20.

In a separate case, Mubarak Tijani is challenging Ireti Kingibe's candidacy for the African Democratic Congress in the Federal Capital Territory, claiming the primary election was invalid. Tijani's counsel, Mose Awuru, also requested alternative service methods, which Justice Ibrahim approved, with a further mention set for July 21.
