Atiku Abubakar's Suit Against Tinubu Adjourned to October 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled a hearing for October 13, 2026, regarding an application by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to amend their pre-election suit against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The application, filed on September 10, 2026, seeks to correct errors in the original court processes and introduce additional material related to Tinubu's eligibility for the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku's counsel, Joseph Silas, noted that he had not yet received Tinubu's counter-affidavit, while Tinubu's lawyer, Wole Olanipekun, confirmed that it was served on September 24. Tinubu opposes the amendments, arguing they introduce new facts and questions beyond mere corrections.

Additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also challenged the proposed amendments, asserting they would create a new cause of action and were filed after the constitutional deadline for pre-election cases.
