APC Governors Split Over Nyesom Wike's Influence Ahead of 2027

A significant division has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a power struggle involving its 31 serving governors unfolds, with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike at the center. A senior party source indicated that while some governors, including Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, support Wike, others led by Progressive Governors' Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma and Nigerian Governors' Forum Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq oppose him.

A third group of governors remains neutral, awaiting President Bola Tinubu's return for guidance. The PGF, in a closed-door meeting, resolved to support only official party candidates in the 2027 elections, directly challenging Wike's Rainbow Coalition project.

Wike refuted claims that his coalition threatens APC unity, attributing opposition to personal interests of Uzodimma and AbdulRazaq. He also outlined strategies to counter former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in the upcoming elections.
