Atiku Abubakar Urged to Quit Politics by Muham Basil Ahead of 2027 Elections

Muham Basil, a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from partisan politics in Nigeria and take on the role of an elder statesman as the country looks towards the 2027 elections. Basil, representing the Jada/Ganye/Toungo/Mayo-Belwa Federal Constituency on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that Atiku should step aside to allow younger politicians to lead.

Atiku, who has run for president six times between 1993 and 2023, including unsuccessful bids in 2019 and 2023, was described by Basil as a figure with power, respect, and experience that could be better utilized in advising the nation. Basil acknowledged Atiku's significant contributions to Nigeria's development but suggested that his exit from active politics would help preserve his legacy.

The call comes amidst concerns over economic hardship, widespread insecurity, and other challenges facing the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
