Pratt Tunde Sues NDC and INEC Over Candidate Replacement

Businessman and politician Pratt Tunde has initiated legal proceedings in Lagos, contesting the alleged secret replacement of his name as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Lagos Mainland federal constituency ahead of the 2027 elections. Pratt claims he won the NDC primary on May 29, 2026, which was monitored and certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He discovered on August 1, 2026, that his name had been replaced by Tunji Sanni without his consent. Pratt's inability to access INEC's nomination portal has caused him significant harm, and he cited INEC's revised timetable for the elections as a reason for urgent court action.

He is seeking a court declaration that the substitution is illegal and void, and he requests that his name be restored as the party's candidate. His legal team, led by Ajose Abejoye, has urged the court to expedite the hearing to prevent a miscarriage of justice.
