Pratt Tunde Sues NDC and INEC Over Candidate Name Change

Hon. Pratt Tunde, a politician and businessman, has initiated a pre-election suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He alleges that on August 1, 2026, the NDC unlawfully replaced his name with that of Sanni Kamurdeen Olatunji on the INEC portal for the Lagos Mainland federal constituency candidacy.

Tunde's suit, filed as Suit No: FHC/LAG/PREM/19/2026 before Justice Akintayo Aluko, requests that the court hears the matter urgently during the ongoing annual court vacation, citing the constitutional requirement for pre-election cases to be resolved within 180 days. His lawyer, Chief Ajose Abejoye, argues that any delay could deprive Tunde of an effective judicial remedy.

Tunde claims that Olatunji is campaigning using his mandate, which has caused him significant political, psychological, and financial harm. He fears that INEC may produce ballot papers with Olatunji's name, making any future judgment ineffective.
