Ogun PDP Leader Warns Against Candidate Imposition

On Friday, Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Ogun State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), issued a warning against the imposition of a governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections. He stressed that the legitimacy of Ogun State's political structure must be anchored on local consensus rather than external imposition.

Showunmi highlighted that the current political dynamics, which have seen a concentration of power in certain areas for 16 years, pose a threat to the fundamental stability of the state. He called for a balanced approach to power distribution among the Egba, Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, and Awori blocs, asserting that the people of Egba will not accept decisions made without their input.

Additionally, he referenced the recent political realignment following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, which he interpreted as part of a broader pattern of sidelining Egba influence in Ogun State's governance.
