2027 Election: Peter Obi’s ‘1-Term Presidency’ Triggers Pushback from Northern Stakeholders

Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stirred controversy among northern political stakeholders with his pledge for a one-term presidency if elected in 2023. Despite pushback from some northern leaders, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to serving only one term if elected in the 2027 election.

Opposition leader Salihu Muhammad Danlami emphasized that Obi's promise remains a bond, while former aide to Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, criticized the pledge as a gimmick to sway voters, especially in the core north. Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Grema Kyari, highlighted the challenges of fulfilling such a promise due to the complex political environment in Nigeria.

Despite the skepticism, Obi's determination to stick to his one-term presidency pledge remains unwavering.
