Lobbying Begins for Obi to Support Tinubu in 2027

A pro-President Bola Tinubu group, the Southeast chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), has initiated plans to lobby influential Igbo leaders to convince former governor Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support Tinubu's re-election bid. This decision was made during a meeting in Owerri on Saturday, August 29.

Franklin Ngoforo, the regional leader of RHGN, stated that the group would engage respected figures such as Senator John Azuta Mbata, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe to form a delegation to approach Obi. Ngoforo emphasized that this move is not intended to undermine Obi's political relevance but is a strategic appeal for the long-term interests of the Igbo.

He argued that Obi should consider the benefits of aligning with the Southwest, especially given Tinubu's constitutional limit on seeking a third term if re-elected in 2027. This could pave the way for the Southeast to pursue the presidency in the next election cycle.
