Southeast Group Urges Obi to Support Tinubu for 2027

The Southeast chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), led by Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, has initiated discussions regarding the 2027 presidential election, advocating for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to withdraw from the race. They propose that Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Ngoforo announced this during a press conference in Owerri, emphasizing the need to secure victory for Tinubu across the five Southeast states. RHGN intends to engage the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, including Senator John Azuta Mbata and elder statesmen like Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, to persuade Obi.

Ngoforo clarified that this initiative is not meant to undermine Obi's political stature but to encourage him to consider the broader political implications for the Southeast. He cited internal crises within the NDC and the political dynamics in Northern Nigeria as factors influencing their stance.
