APC Zamfara North primary sees rival winners declared
The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Zamfara North, held on November 2, 2026, has resulted in confusion due to two conflicting declarations of winners. The primary was conducted following a court order that nullified a previous exercise.
Dr Auwal Abdullahi Aliyu, the Chairman of the APC Zamfara North Senatorial District Primary Election Committee, declared incumbent Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura the winner with 49,176 votes, while Tijjani Yahaya Kaura received 9,628 votes and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi got 2,602 votes. However, a separate declaration by another returning officer, Sani Abdullahi, announced Tijjani Yahaya Kaura as the winner with 16,758 votes, while Sahabi Ya’u Kaura was credited with only 1,465 votes.
The discrepancies in the vote counts and the emergence of rival winners have raised significant questions regarding the credibility of the rerun and the final outcome for the party's candidate in the senatorial district.
