Wike and Coalition Hold Strategic Meeting in Spain

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and key stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State convened a strategic meeting in Spain in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Notably absent from the meeting was Siminalayi Fubara, the current governor of Rivers State, who recently aligned with the coalition.

Participants included Chief Marcus Nle Ejii, Executive Director of Projects and Infrastructural Development at the South South Development Commission, Senator Mao Ohabunwa, Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, and Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State. While the specific agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, it is speculated to be related to the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for February 6, 2027.

Wike has publicly declared Chinda as his preferred candidate to succeed Fubara. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that campaigning for the gubernatorial elections commenced on September 8, 2023.
