Gombe Governor Directs APC to Conduct Direct Primaries

On Wednesday, Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya announced a new directive for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct direct primaries for the upcoming 2027 general elections, abandoning a controversial consensus arrangement. This decision was communicated during a statewide broadcast, where Yahaya emphasized the need for transparency and unity within the party.

The previous consensus option faced criticism and was deemed ineffective, leading to tensions among party stakeholders. Former Governor Danjuma Goje was among the critics, asserting that valid consensus cannot exist without the consent of all aspirants.

He rejected the notion of endorsing candidates for the Gombe Central senatorial district seat without a transparent process. Yahaya's directive aims to allow party members to determine their candidates fairly, warning against any political thuggery or intimidation during the primaries.

He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Gombe State as his administration approaches its final year.
