Gombe Women Agenda Unveils Charter for Women's Inclusion

The Gombe Women Agenda, led by convener Ibrahim Yusuf, organized a stakeholders’ engagement in Gombe to promote women's inclusion in governance and decision-making ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group, which consists of over 100 women’s organizations, presented a charter of demands that includes 10 major pillars and approximately 20 recommendations.

Key priorities outlined in the charter include education, particularly for the girl-child, maternal mortality, and women's economic empowerment. Yusuf emphasized the importance of involving men, religious leaders, and traditional institutions in the advocacy process, stating that collaboration is essential for achieving the group's objectives.

He noted that misconceptions about women's roles often hinder their political participation, and that religious and traditional leaders could help bridge these gaps. The Gombe Women Agenda plans to publicly launch the charter within the next two to three weeks and encourages active participation in the upcoming elections while resisting intimidation.
