IGP Disu Urges Security and Professionalism for 2027 Elections

The Inspector-General of Police, Disu, issued a warning to politicians, political parties, and their supporters against vote buying, electoral violence, and intimidation that could undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections. This warning was made during the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers held in Owerri, Imo State.

Disu emphasized the necessity for greater professionalism, intelligence-led policing, and coordinated security operations in preparation for the elections. He stated that the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate actions threatening peaceful electoral participation and must remain professional and impartial.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, echoed the need for the police to uphold high standards of professionalism and impartiality. The President highlighted that the security of the electoral process extends beyond protecting ballot papers and polling stations to ensuring the safety of citizens and electoral officials.

He urged the police to enhance intelligence gathering, response times, and community engagement.
