INEC Extends Deadline for Party Membership Submission

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Originally scheduled for April 1 to April 21, 2026, the submission period has been revised to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

The new final deadline for submission is now set for May 10, 2026. INEC Chairman Moham Haruna informed the Voter Education Committee about this decision in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

Additionally, political parties are permitted to conduct their primaries within the window from April 23 to May 30, 2026. The commission emphasized the importance of adhering to this revised timeline to ensure a smooth electoral process and clarified that parties must submit their membership registers no later than 21 days before their primaries.
