Sam Amadi Predicts Worsening Democracy in Nigeria by 2027

Sam Amadi, the director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, predicts that Nigeria's democracy will deteriorate further by 2027. During an interview on Tuesday, Amadi discussed the current state of democratic practices in Nigeria, highlighting the lack of internal democracy within the country's political parties as a significant issue.

He criticized the judiciary, describing it as ineffective and arguing that provisions in the Electoral Act appear to limit judicial oversight. Amadi expressed concern that the current state of the Nigerian party system does not reflect internal democratic norms, suggesting that the judiciary's role has become a "hopeless case." He noted that attempts to exclude judicial review from the electoral process exacerbate the situation, indicating that without significant changes, democracy in Nigeria is expected to worsen by 2027.
