Zamfara Governor Lawal Challenges Wike on Political Allegiance

Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, has challenged Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to either join the All Progressives Congress (APC) or withdraw from the Rainbow Coalition if he intends to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Lawal stated that Wike cannot simultaneously support Tinubu at the presidential level while backing candidates from other political parties in governorship and legislative elections.

This statement was made during an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Lawal insisted that APC governors would continue to demand that support for Tinubu be matched with support for APC candidates in the upcoming elections.

He plans to discuss Wike's political allegiance with President Tinubu, emphasizing the need for clarity regarding Wike's political stance. The disagreement arises from Wike's promotion of the Rainbow Coalition as a platform to support Tinubu without requiring politicians to abandon their parties.
