INEC Lagos Enhances Measures Against Electoral Offences

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State is taking significant steps to combat vote-buying, illegal campaign financing, and other electoral offences in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Professor Ayobami Salami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), announced these measures during a press briefing on October 13, 2026.
INEC is collaborating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the National Electoral Integrity Unit (NEIU), and the Federal Ministry of Justice. From October 28, 2026, to January 1, 2027, INEC will intensify engagements with political parties regarding financial reporting and compliance with campaign finance regulations.
Salami also introduced a QR code system to help eligible voters locate PVC collection centres and emphasized the importance of safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He expressed concerns over misinformation affecting electoral integrity and urged media organizations to verify information through official INEC channels.
Additionally, preparations for the recruitment and training of electoral personnel are underway, with a mock accreditation exercise scheduled for November 2026.
