INEC Launches QR Code System for Lagos Voter Verification

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has introduced a Quick Response (QR) code initiative to assist registered voters in Lagos State in locating designated centres for verifying their details in the Register of Voters ahead of the 2027 general elections. Prof. Ayobami Salami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lagos State, announced this during a press briefing on October 13.
The display of the register began on October 9 and is taking place across 245 Registration Areas and wards in Lagos, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026. The verification exercise will conclude on October 15, and Salami urged voters to confirm their personal information and correct any discrepancies.
Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, the highest in Nigeria, across 20 local government areas, 245 Registration Areas, and 13,325 polling units. The distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has also started, available for those who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, and those who registered from 2011 to 2022 but have not collected their cards.
