Makinde Declares Presidential Bid, Urges Opposition Unity

On Thursday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde formally declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election during a rally at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, attended by a large crowd. He announced his alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Movement (APM).

Makinde warned that Nigeria is drifting towards a one-party state, which he described as a threat to democracy. He called for unity among opposition parties to rescue democracy and reset the nation amid worsening economic and security situations.

He criticized the current administration for failing to address public hardships and urged Nigerians to engage actively in the political process. The rally also served as a platform to announce a broader opposition coalition aimed at providing an alternative political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former governor and PDP chieftain, was mentioned as a key figure in forming this coalition.
