Nwankwo Calls for Active Voter Participation in Abuja

On 20 October 2026, Clement Nwankwo, the Executive Director of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), delivered a keynote address at the eighth annual public lecture of the Just Friends Club of Nigeria (JFCN) in Abuja. He urged Nigerians to turn their concerns about national issues into active participation in the electoral process.
Nwankwo emphasized that voters should evaluate political parties and candidates based on their records and policies rather than ethnic or party affiliations. He called for political parties to present credible plans addressing insecurity, electricity supply, employment, and the cost of living.
He also stressed the importance of electoral transparency, encouraging voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and understand electoral procedures. Hussaini Abdul, the Chairman of the occasion and Country Director of CARE Nigeria, noted the weakening influence of Nigeria’s middle class on democratic development.
He highlighted the need for greater civic engagement to strengthen democracy. JFCN President Amaechi C. Aloke reiterated the importance of informed participation and responsible citizenship.
