Opposition Parties Unite for Single Candidate in 2027

At a summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the faction chairman of the People's Democratic Party, announced that opposition parties in Nigeria have reached a consensus to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. This strategic move is intended to enhance the opposition's chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Turaki emphasized the need for unity among opposition parties to present a formidable front in the upcoming elections. He also called for the resignation of Joash Ojo Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, accusing him of bias in favor of the APC, which could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

The summit featured prominent opposition leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, who stressed the importance of electoral reform and collaboration among opposition parties to address Nigeria's worsening economic and security challenges.
