PDP Opposes BENSESA's Campaign Poster Directive Ahead of 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opposed a directive issued by the Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA) concerning campaign posters and billboards in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The directive, dated September 3, 2026, and signed by General Manager Anta Igbaato, mandates political parties and candidates to obtain approval before displaying campaign materials, citing environmental concerns.

The PDP accused Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration of using this directive to limit opposition activities under the guise of enforcing environmental laws. The party's State Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, labeled the directive as anti-democratic and a threat to free political participation, asserting that while the PDP supports environmental sanitation, it rejects the use of government agencies to hinder legitimate political engagement.

The PDP expressed concerns that the directive could be selectively enforced against opposition parties, allowing the ruling party to operate without restrictions. The party called on Governor Alia to retract the directive and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to monitor the situation.
