Defections of Obi, Kwankwaso Hurt ADC's Opposition Strategy

Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed that the recent defections of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have negatively impacted the opposition's strength in Nigeria. During an interview on AIT's political platform, Abdullahi expressed that the opposition must work together to effectively challenge the incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

He noted that the current division among opposition parties, which he described as being split into three or four factions, gives an advantage to the incumbent. Abdullahi emphasized that the departures of Obi and Kwankwaso from the ADC do not only hurt the party but also affect the overall ability of the opposition to present a united front.

He mentioned that while he is not suggesting that Atiku Abubakar, a notable figure in the opposition, is not a viable candidate, he refrained from commenting on the aspirations or negotiations of the ADC regarding future candidates.
