NPC Reports 60 Electoral Violations, Calls for Enforcement
The National Peace Committee (NPC) reported 60 electoral violations across Nigeria within one month of signing the 2027 National Peace Accord. In a statement from Abuja, Chairman Gen. Abdulsalami A.
Abubakar (rtd) and Convener Most Rev. Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah expressed concern over political violence, inflammatory rhetoric, and misinformation. The violations, recorded between August 19 and September 19, 2026, included 40% related to misinformation, 21.7% to attacks on political activities, and 16.7% to political intimidation.
The NPC emphasized that the Accord is a binding commitment and called for the Nigeria Police Force and security agencies to conduct impartial investigations into electoral offences, including prosecuting sponsors of violence. The Committee also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce campaign guidelines under the Electoral Act 2026 and advised political parties and citizens to resolve disputes through legal means.
