NPC Urges Compliance with Peace Accord for 2027 Elections

The National Peace Committee (NPC) has called for full compliance with the National Peace Accord by political parties, candidates, security agencies, and stakeholders in preparation for Nigeria's 2027 general elections. This appeal was made in a statement signed by Chairman Gen. Abdulsalami A.
Abubakar and Convener Rev. Matthew Kukah on a Monday in Abuja. The NPC expressed concern over increasing incidents of misinformation, intimidation, and political violence that could jeopardize the electoral process.
Since the signing of the first National Peace Accord on August 18, 2026, the NPC's Election Security Information (ESI) hub recorded 60 election-related incidents from August 19 to September 19, 2026. Misinformation accounted for 40% of these incidents.
The NPC urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct impartial investigations into electoral offences and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enhance monitoring of political campaigns and enforce compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
