APC Campaign Council Accuses Atiku of Corruption in Power Project

The presidential campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a statement accusing Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of compromising Nigeria's interests concerning the stalled Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State. The statement, signed by spokesman Dele Alake, referenced ongoing proceedings before an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal in Paris related to the 3,960-megawatt project.

It alleged that Atiku, who served as Vice President under Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Power Minister Olu Agunloye were involved in signing a contract with Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited during Obasanjo's first term, despite objections from the former President and the Federal Executive Council. The APC also highlighted a $500,000 payment made on January 30, 2003, to an account linked to Atiku's former wife, Jennifer Douglas, suggesting a connection to the Mambilla contract.

The council noted that Atiku did not attend the Paris proceedings, contrasting his absence with former Presidents Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, who defended Nigeria's position. The APC called for Atiku to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
