Atiku Abubakar Challenges APC Over Mambilla Contract Claims

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has publicly challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to produce evidence of his involvement in the Mambilla hydropower contract or any allegations of receiving a $500,000 bribe related to the deal. He asserted that the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal in Paris did not find him guilty of corruption in its ruling concerning the dispute between Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited and the Federal Government.

The tribunal dismissed claims made by Sunrise Power and ordered reimbursement of approximately $11.8 million in legal fees to Nigeria. The controversy involves a payment made by Leno Adesanya to Jennifer Douglas, Atiku's former wife, which Adesanya claimed was part of a foreign-exchange transaction for Atiku.

However, the tribunal noted that Adesanya failed to provide supporting documentation for this claim. Atiku denied any involvement in the procurement process for the Mambilla project and challenged the APC to substantiate their allegations.
