Hashim Plans to Boost Nigeria's Oil Production by 2027

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, the presidential candidate of the Accord Party, has announced a plan to elevate Nigeria's crude oil production to at least four million barrels per day within 24 months if he is elected in 2027. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he outlined his Energy First Presidential Agenda, emphasizing the revival of approximately 3,000 inactive oil wells rather than allocating public funds to projects that may not yield immediate revenue.

Hashim stated that Nigeria currently produces about 1.5 million barrels of crude oil daily, and his target represents an increase of about 2.5 million barrels per day. He argued that the primary issue is not the lack of oil resources but the underutilization of existing petroleum assets.

Hashim proposed assessing each inactive well to determine the reasons for its inactivity and suggested interventions such as repairs and improved evacuation arrangements. He also proposed creating a National Production Recovery Dashboard to monitor the recovery efforts.
