Jonathan Consults on 2027 Presidential Candidacy Plans

Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, announced on Thursday that he is consulting widely as he considers a potential candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. During a visit from a youth group at his office in Abuja, he acknowledged the necessity of careful deliberation in leadership decisions and emphasized the importance of youth engagement in politics.

Jonathan commended the youth for their patriotism and urged them to promote peace and credible elections. He expressed concern over Nigeria's low voter turnout, noting that the country has one of the poorest participation rates in elections among African nations.

He highlighted that many young Nigerians lack voter cards, which hinders their ability to participate in elections. Jonathan reiterated his commitment to listening to appeals and consulting before making any political decisions regarding the presidency, stating that he cannot simply declare his intention without thorough consideration.
