Jonathan to Consult Before Deciding on 2027 Presidency

Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, announced on Thursday that he will consult widely before making a decision regarding a potential candidacy for the presidency in the 2027 elections. During a visit from a youth group at his office in Abuja, Jonathan responded to their appeal for him to contest, stressing that leadership requires careful consideration.

He commended the youth for their interest in the country, describing them as essential for nation-building. Jonathan urged young Nigerians to promote peace and credible elections, warning that a lack of transparency in the electoral process discourages citizen participation.

He lamented Nigeria's low voter turnout, noting it has one of the poorest participation rates in Africa despite having a large voting population. Jonathan highlighted the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address issues that hinder youth involvement in the electoral process, including the challenge of obtaining voter cards.

He reiterated his commitment to listening to appeals and consulting before making any political decisions regarding the 2027 elections.
