Atiku Ready to Step Aside for Younger Candidate in 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his willingness to step down from his presidential ambitions for a younger and widely accepted candidate ahead of the 2027 general election in Nigeria. Atiku, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated in an interview with BBC Hausa Service that his interest in the 2027 race is not driven by personal ambition but by the desire to provide a credible alternative to rescue the country.

He urged younger Nigerians to actively engage in politics and assured his support for a vibrant candidate, emphasizing the need for unity within opposition parties to counter alleged government interference and build a strong front against the ruling party.
