SDP Leaders Defect to APC in Oyo State Ahead of 2027

Leaders from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, including Mogaji Saheed Oyewale, the SDP candidate in the Oluyole State Constituency during the 2023 general elections, and Mr. David Arowolo, the party’s chairmanship candidate for the 2024 local government election, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Other notable SDP members who joined the APC include Mr. Ganiyu Lawal (Chairman, Oluyole Local Government Area), Adetunji Adewale (Secretary), Mrs. Taiwo Lasisi (Women Leader), Muritala Jeje (Youth Leader), and Afeez Agbongbon (Public Relations Officer), along with all local government and ward executive committee members from the 10 electoral wards in the area.

Their defection was announced during a visit to the APC state secretariat in Ibadan, where they were received by the APC Chairman in the state, Chief Moses Adeyemo. Oyewale stated that their decision was motivated by a desire to support President Bola Tinubu's vision for a better Nigeria, predicting that many SDP members would follow suit in the coming weeks.
