Oyo PDP Endorses Dr. Debo Akande for 2027 Governorship

On Tuesday, stakeholders from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State endorsed Dr. Debo Akande as the consensus gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections.

This decision emerged from a high-level consultation meeting held in Ibadan, where it was reported that Akande received 20 out of 21 votes, reflecting near-unanimous support among influential party leaders. The meeting dismissed reports suggesting that fellow aspirants Bimbo Adekanmbi and Akinade Fijabi were also in contention, labeling such narratives as misleading.

Monsurat Sunmonu, a former speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, openly supported Akande's candidacy during the discussions, emphasizing his loyalty and political experience as key factors for the endorsement. Despite Akande's strong backing, there are indications of influential political interests attempting to override the consensus reached among stakeholders in favor of other aspirants ahead of the primaries.
