Stakeholders Advocate for Gender Inclusiveness Ahead of 2027

On Monday, stakeholders in Nigeria called for gender inclusiveness in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that empowering women is crucial for boosting the nation's economy. The call was made during the 2026 International Women's Day celebration, themed "Communal Balance: Gain Equity, Empower Women." Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, pointed out that structural barriers, including financial exclusion and rigid workplace systems, limit women's full participation in the economy.

She lamented the decline of women in the workforce during peak career years due to a lack of institutional support, particularly during childbearing years, which creates a leadership gap affecting organizational performance. Governor Agbu Kefa of Taraba State highlighted that when women are empowered, nations tend to enjoy prosperity and stability.
