Nigeria's 2027 Presidential Candidates Emerge from Parties

As Nigeria prepares for the January 16, 2027 general elections, several political parties have concluded their presidential primaries, resulting in a diverse array of candidates. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has nominated Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who previously served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and is currently the incumbent president.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is divided into factions, with one backing Nyesom Wike and another supporting former President Goodluck Jonathan, who served from 2010 to 2015. Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President from 1999 to 2007, is the candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Dumebi Kachikwu is backed by another ADC faction.

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and founder of Sahara Reporters, is again running for president under the African Action Congress. Other notable candidates include Peter Obi from the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Chibuzo Okereke from the Labour Party.
