Tinubu Meets Officials Ahead of 2027 Campaign Launch

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu convened closed-door meetings with key political and government officials at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, just hours before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general election, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, as per the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Notable attendees included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who arrived at 6:12 pm, and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, who was already in a meeting with the President.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives, arrived at 7:15 pm, following the visit of Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola. Oyetola's visit occurred shortly after Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake was also present at the Villa. The specific agenda of these meetings was not disclosed, and none of the officials spoke to journalists.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has set August 19, 2026, as the official start date for political campaigns leading up to the 2027 elections.
