IPAC Vows to Restore Normalcy in Nigeria's Electoral System

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), under the leadership of Chairman Yusuf Dantal, has committed to bringing normalcy to Nigeria's electoral system in preparation for the 2027 general elections. During an interview on the Polit Today program on Channel Television, Dantal expressed concerns regarding the controversial amendments to the Electoral Act, which were signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in 2022.

He highlighted that the amendments have sparked widespread debate across various sectors in Nigeria. Dantal emphasized that IPAC is prepared to boycott the upcoming elections if the National Assembly does not address their concerns regarding the electoral process, particularly the approval of electronic transmission of election results and manual collation within 24 hours.

He noted that Nigeria has endured 26 years of uninterrupted democracy and that the issues raised by IPAC will resurface in 2023, necessitating a return to normalcy in the electoral system.
