IPAC Threatens 2027 Election Boycott Over Electoral Act

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), led by National Chairman Yusuf Dantal, has warned that political parties across Nigeria may boycott the 2027 general elections if the National Assembly fails to amend controversial provisions in the recently signed Electoral Act 2026. The council expressed concerns that certain sections of the act, particularly Section 84(2), which excludes indirect primaries for political parties, infringe on constitutional rights and undermine internal party management.

IPAC criticized the removal of mandatory electronic transmission of election results, citing its absence as a major flaw that contributed to controversies during the 2023 presidential elections. They also raised alarms about the requirement for party members to upload their National Identification Number (NIN) for membership registration, warning that this could disenfranchise millions of Nigerians.

IPAC emphasized that if these issues are not addressed, they will mobilize parties nationwide to resist the provisions, potentially leading to a rejection of the election outcomes as illegitimate.
