Joint Revenue Board Announces Adoption of New Tax Laws
The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) announced that 21 states have adopted new tax harmonisation laws signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at streamlining tax collection and reducing leakages.
At a press conference in Abuja, Executive Secretary Olusegun Adesokan revealed the states that have adopted these laws, which include Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Plateau, Zamfara, Benue, Ekiti, Kogi, Enugu, Kwara, Abia, Nasarawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Gombe, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Delta, Yobe, Ondo, and Borno. The federal government has reduced the number of tax and levy heads from 100 to nine, which now include income tax, stamp duty, property tax, road tax, haulage levy, economic development levy, harmonised levy, user charge, and daily ticket.
Adesokan stated that tax collection through roadblocks would cease, with enforcement by security agencies to begin soon, aiming to eliminate harassment of motorists and reduce costs for transporting goods.
