24 Residents Die After Consuming Herbal Drinks in Ondo

The Ondo State Government confirmed the deaths of 24 residents in Odigbo Local Government Area following the consumption of a herbal liquid substance. The incident occurred on Saturday, affecting two communities: Araromi Obu, where eight people died, and Odigbo town, where 16 fatalities were reported.

A source indicated that the deceased consumed the substance at different locations and later became unconscious. Mr Taiwo Adegoroye, the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, confirmed the deaths and stated that a medical team would conduct autopsies to determine the cause.

He has also placed a ban on the sale and consumption of locally brewed alcoholic drinks as a precaution. Dr Banji Ajaka, the state Commissioner for Health, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the actual cause of the deaths, with health officials set to conduct further assessments in the affected areas.
