Plateau State Violence Claims 28 Lives Despite Curfew

At least 28 individuals have been reported killed in renewed attacks across Plateau State, despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government to curb violence. The attacks occurred mainly in Manga, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas (LGAs), escalating tensions and disrupting farming and livestock activities.
The latest incident took place on a Sunday evening when gunmen attacked Fulani herders traveling in a pick-up vehicle near a Total filling station in Bukuru, Jos South LGA, resulting in two deaths and six injuries. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, confirmed that the victims were returning from a cattle market when they were ambushed.
He condemned the attack as unprovoked and urged security agencies to take action against the perpetrators. This incident follows another attack less than two weeks prior, which left five people dead near Kassa community in Barkin Ladi.
The curfew, imposed on September 21, restricts movement from 6 PM to 6 AM daily.
