311 House Members Support State Police Bill Amid Walkout

On Thursday, during a plenary session, 311 members of the 10th House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill aimed at establishing State Police Services in Nigeria. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced the results during the Committee of the Whole, which reviewed the report from the Special Ad-hoc Committee on Constitution Review, chaired by Hon.

Benjamin Kalu. The voting utilized an electronic platform, with 211 votes from the All Progressives Congress (APC), 65 from other parties, and 35 additional votes.

Despite the support, 15 members opposed the bill, leading to a brief disruption when Minority Leader Hon. Fred Agbedi and Minority Spokesman Hon.

Victor Ogene raised points of order that were not acknowledged by the Speaker. Following this, the Minority Caucus staged a walkout, expressing dissatisfaction with the Speaker's handling of their objections.

Agbedi criticized the Speaker for not allowing them to voice their concerns, arguing that their votes could not be counted if they were not permitted to express opposition.
