Nigeria Institute of Town Planners Lament Lack of Urban Planning Law Implementation After 33 Years

The Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP) expressed concerns over the non-implementation of urban planning laws in Nigeria, specifically the 1992 Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Law. Dr.

Ogbonna Chime, the President of NITP, revealed the challenges faced in enforcing the law at a national colloquium in Abuja. The law, aimed at efficient resource management and orderly settlement growth, has not been fully adhered to by federal, state, and local governments.

NITP emphasized the need for proper implementation to drive national development effectively.
