APC Youth Leader Demands Accountability for Miners' Deaths

Abdulhamid Umar Moh’d, the APC North-West Youth Leader, expressed condolences to the families of 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State. He described the incident as tragic and particularly concerning due to reports that many victims were young individuals.

Umar Moh’d stated that all detainees are entitled to humane treatment and protection while in government custody and demanded answers from authorities regarding the deaths. He urged the federal government and relevant investigative bodies to ensure that the ongoing investigation is transparent, independent, and comprehensive, asserting that no individual or institution should be shielded from accountability if wrongdoing is established.

The federal government has ordered an independent investigation and suspended officers linked to the incident. A 10-member committee, led by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths within two weeks.
