Nigeria Recruits 37,000 Health Workers in 2023

In 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully recruited no fewer than 37,000 health workers across its health institutions, as stated by Ado Bako, the Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Health. This recruitment is part of a broader strategy to improve healthcare delivery, which also includes the training of 70,000 frontline workers.

The government has approved a national policy to address the growing challenges of workforce migration in the health profession. The policy aims to strengthen workforce retention and promote ethical recruitment actions while supporting the national health workforce registry.

Additionally, the government has allocated N32.9 billion to revise the framework supporting 8,300 primary health centers and expand ongoing services to 13,000 facilities nationwide. The reforms are designed to enhance access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, with a focus on maternal and newborn health, and to improve local pharmaceutical manufacturing.
