Nigeria Recruits 37,000 Health Workers in 2023

In 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully recruited no fewer than 37,000 health workers across its health institutions, as stated by Ado Bako, the Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Health. This recruitment is part of a broader initiative that includes training 70,000 frontline workers aimed at improving healthcare service delivery.

The government has approved a national policy to address the growing challenges of skill migration within the health profession. This policy is designed to enhance workforce planning, strengthen retention, and promote ethical recruitment actions.

The government has also committed to investing in specialist training and developing a national health workforce registry. Furthermore, a revised Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) of N32.9 billion has been approved to support the expansion of 8,300 primary health centers nationwide, contributing to health reforms that aim to provide access to healthcare for vulnerable populations.
