61 Opposition Lawmakers Endorse Ugochinyere for Leadership

A total of 61 opposition lawmakers have endorsed Ikenga Ugochinyere for the minority leadership seat in the House of Representatives. This endorsement follows the vacancy created by the defection of former minority leader Kingsley Chinda from the People's Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The nomination was formally submitted to Speaker Tajudeen Abba, who is expected to ratify it in accordance with parliamentary procedures. The endorsement, which reflects overwhelming support across various political parties, was made public on Wednesday.

The opposition caucus, which includes members from the African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Labour Party, and others, reached a consensus after extensive consultations. Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North in Imo State, has a history of legislative experience and has sponsored numerous bills and motions.

The opposition lawmakers expressed confidence in Ugochinyere's ability to lead, and discussions regarding the final composition of the minority leadership team are ongoing.
