Ikenga Ugochinyere Nominated as House Minority Leader

Ikenga Ugochinyere has been nominated as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, following the vacancy left by Kingsley Chinda, who represents the Obio Akpor Federal Constituency in Rivers State. Ugochinyere's nomination was supported by 61 members from different political parties, reflecting a coalition of opposition members in the House.

He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and had previously defected from the Action People's Party (APP) in January. The nomination was formalized in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abba, dated June 3, 2026.

The coalition includes members from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Progress Grand Alliance (APGA), People's Redemption Party (PRP), Labour Party (LP), All People's Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Accord, indicating a broad support base for Ugochinyere's leadership role.
